Did you know that NCDR can help you meet MOC Part IV requirements?
The Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program, developed by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), requires physicians to maintain a valid practice license, pass recertification exams and perform a self-evaluation of medical knowledge and self-evaluation of practice assessment.
MOC Part IV activities address Self-Evaluation of Practice Assessment and engage physicians in an assessment of how their clinical practice compares with national benchmarks. Based on the assessment, the physicians are encouraged to implement strategies to align with evidence-based guidelines.
There are a number of web-based tools to complete the practice assessment requirement, called a Practice Improvement Module (PIM), which allow physicians to use approved data sources to complete the module. The NCDR is one of the approved data sources for completing the Self-Directed PIM or Completed Project PIM for physicians whose patient records are submitted to the NCDR registries.
A PIM completion builds physician engagement with the NCDR and enhances NCDR data quality. Also, by supporting certification activities, you:
- Demonstrate the importance of registries
- Educate cardiologists about registry data and reports
- Contribute to improving performance in your organization/team
- Play important role in ensuring cardiologists recertify
- Assist in the development of a team approach to NCDR
